A British daydreamer who moved to the United States to marry in 2012, I left the comfort and security of my mundane corporate job shortly after to follow my heart. A huge leap of faith saw me fulfill a brief yet rewarding encounter with floral design and with it began the journey of shaping my own endeavors.
Thankful for the new relationships that blossomed as a result of my tenure at Holly Chapple Flowers, it wasn’t long before doors filled with promise of an exciting new chapter began to open. Currently employed by Jodi & Kurt Photography while exploring numerous freelance opportunities that appeal to my personal interests, my journey has been one centered around three main avocations.
~ Food ~
Food has triumphantly held a leading role in my every day for as long as I can recall. From preparing fresh ingredients and delving into the history of a well loved recipe to setting the dining table or styling a simple vignette, food and the art of entertaining continues to bring me joy on a daily basis.
The shelves in our home are filled with treasured recipe books from all over the globe and with the turn of every page, I am inspired by the variety of flavors and textures my favorite culinary artists have created.
Whether hosting an opulent dinner party that requires careful forward thinking or simply savoring a cozy dinner for two by the fire, every occasion is an opportunity to create a story and there is no mistaking that some of my most cherished recollections have revolved around food.
~ Travel ~
Fond of exploring whenever the opportunity presents itself, I’ve been passionate about discovering distant destinations ever since our family excursions across the English Channel. At twelve years old I boarded an airplane for the very first time and since then, I’ve been an avid wanderluster, forever dreaming of the next departure.
Fortunate to have visited every continent but one, I have left small pieces of my heart in so many beautiful places; from Charleston to Florence and Reykjavik to Salzburg, not to mention the breathtaking landscapes and rural retreats I’ve fallen in love with in between.
I often reminisce about the adventures I’ve had and the memoirs I’ve shared as a result of my curious nature, from wandering the fairytale streets of France at Christmas to making pasta deep in the Tuscan countryside. Of course not every excursion has been perfectly idyllic; an unforgettable spell of sickness in Bangkok comes to mind, however, I cannot disagree that such tales of travel have thus far made for some of life’s most unforgettable stories.
~ Writing ~
One of my favorite tasks throughout my academic years was to write creatively. From poems and fictional narratives during my childhood to complicated essays and dissertations in college, there wasn’t a single circumstance in which I didn’t enjoy the simple exercise of putting pen to paper. The words always seemed to flow so effortlessly and I would happily lose myself in sharing the goings on in my head for hours.
Today the desire to write freely is ever more apparent despite the absence of school. Inspired by the great storytellers of times gone by as well as some of today’s most accomplished writers, I love to explore vocabulary and I’m constantly scribbling down ideas for future fables.
As such, it was my passion for writing that began this blog.
My Modern Diary…
My online journal adventure began in 2013 when I made a conscious choice to start sharing my diary entries publicly. Since then, my modern diary has evolved into an electronic notebook filled with personal experiences and memories. At first it was simply a convenient place to store thoughts and recollections so I could revisit them time and time again. Accounts of travel and recipe interpretations soon followed and my modern diary slowly became my creative outlet.
Inspired by the four distinct seasons of the small village I grew up in as well as the place I now call home, my work is often mindful of the here and now as the evolving landscape, climatic elements and seasonal produce resonate with my creative spirit.
In short, I am a story teller and welcome to my book.
