Labor day has been and gone. The school bus began its daily routine a few weeks ago and the much-loved chill at dawn and dusk is upon us. Summer is over folks.
Despite being quiet on the blog, it definitely hasn’t been slow around here for the past couple of months…
We’ve entertained several overseas visitors, drank copious amounts of chilled white and rose, sailed on the Chesapeake Bay, re-lived our youth tenpin bowling, eaten our weight in blueberries, cherries and peaches, perfected the summer fruit pie and crisp, jumped-in feet first with a career change, sang our hearts out to Billy Joel and spent countless days making our house a home.
Not to mention numerous trips to our favorite ice-cream spots, playing with butterflies in the fields of Virginia, spending time with great friends and feasting regularly on watermelon.
Although the list of things we’ve accomplished is long, I can’t help feeling like the summer came and went in the blink of an eye. There are so many things on my list that never happened this year… I haven’t felt sand beneath my feet for some time now and I don’t remember the last time I swam in the ocean. I haven’t eaten nearly enough fresh seafood and I’ve been eager to go for a bike ride all season long.
With that being said, my favorite season is upon us. Summer is over and instead of looking back, it’s time to look forward to all the things that make fall my absolute most favorite time of year; colorful leaves, boots and sweaters, mulled drinks, pumpkins and crisp clear mornings.
So until next year summer, thank you; it was as always a pleasure.
