There is no place like the Lake District, England. For as long as I can remember this serenely beautiful corner of the world has been my home. My parents have lived in a house looking out onto the National Park's fells for over 30 years.

It's funny how you don't really appreciate your surroundings until you leave them behind. For years the Cumbrian fells blended into the background. They were the comfortable, familiar backdrop to my every day life.

Today I miss them.

I came across these images on a memory card last weekend. They were taken two winters ago when I was fortunate enough to live under my parents roof for three months as I eagerly awaited the approval of my visa to the United States.

Catbells is one of the Lake District's most popular climbs; I think it's easy to see why.

I will let the photographs do the talking, after all, they say pictures speak a thousand words.
