A Spring Revival
Today was the first day of Spring & the sun was shining. With it, there was a wonderful feeling of rejuvenation as I sat at my desk scribbling this week's to-do list. I felt positively refreshed.
Mid-March saw unwelcome frigid temperatures & snow on the East Coast of the United States. Early signs of Spring were quickly halted in their tracks as we begrudgingly returned to wearing cozy sweaters & wooly hats. Today there was no sign of Winter. Last week's snow has dissipated & it finally feels as though Spring is here to stay. Hallelujah!
Commonly known as the season of new life, Spring is often a time for decluttering, resetting & starting afresh. As such, I decided to pause between one or two house cleaning duties this afternoon to remind myself of some resolutions I made at the beginning of the year, one of which was to write more. As a result, here I am. Openly sharing one or two thoughts about what lies ahead in March, April & May.
This Spring I'm inexplicably enthusiastic about the prospect of spending more time in the garden. We don't have a huge plot to tend to, however, I'm determined to get my hands in the soil this season. I currently have four trays of vegetable seedlings on the go & one or two Summer blooms that I've been nurturing daily. My tomato seedlings are approximately three inches high & are coming along a treat! It's going to be so exciting to watch them grow & develop over the next few months!
With vegetables in mind, I'm also looking forward to Spring produce making a reappearance. I can't wait for crisp radish & carrots, fresh fennel & peas, & of course, rhubarb. Rhubarb pies & crumbles are my absolute favorite! I've created some delicious, hearty home-cooked dinners throughout Winter, however, I'm definitely ready for a lighter, fresher approach to cooking that comes naturally with the change of season.
Also with the change of season comes increasingly longer days. The children in our neighborhood have already begun to ride their bikes up & down the street after school, which fills me with heartwarming memories of my own childhood. As the days lengthened with the Spring, so would our outdoor playtime; pushing our evening curfew to the limit. Increased daylight today means more productivity. More opportunity to fulfill to-do lists & to achieve personal goals. Perhaps a little outdoor activity every now & again too!
When considering to-do lists, I'm eager to fulfill one or two home projects in the next couple of months. Nothing makes me happier than cleaning & refreshing our house. From simple everyday tasks to bigger, more complex undertakings, the feeling of accomplishment when it comes to making our house a home is pleasantly satisfying. Who doesn't love a good Spring clean?
In short, Spring is here & with it, a revived energy. So long until next time, Winter!
