Winter is coming

Winter is coming

As the sun shines through the glass warming my back, it's hard to believe that the upper Midwest is suffering from record breaking snow this week. Here in Northern Virginia, the early morning fog lifted soon after 8 AM and we're currently experiencing a blissful fall day with vibrant blue skies, glorious sunshine and temperatures in the mid 60's.

That being said, make the very most of these last few perfect autumnal days as winter is coming folks and I have a feeling it's going to be a long, cold, snowy one.

Last year's buzz phrase "polar vortex" has already been heard on the Weather Channel as temperatures in central parts of the US plunged below freezing yesterday; a depressing thought when we're only 11 days into November, which is technically still considered fall in the Northern Hemisphere.

With a long, chilly season still very much ahead of us, it's hard to discourage the overwhelming desire to hibernate. Unfortunately however, burying my head in a feather pillow and snuggling-up under the duvet is not an option for the next few months…

So, instead of feeling sorry for myself and moaning that it's too cold to do anything, I'm choosing to embrace it! That means wrapping-up warm and playing in the snow, cooking yummy belly-warming meals, drinking more beverages of the mulled variety and jumping out of bed to start each new day when the alarm goes off {ok, so that's a total exaggeration; I can't even do this during the glorious summer months never mind when it's mind-numbingly chilly?!}

The point is I'm going to make the most of it. The past six months have literally passed me by in the blink of an eye, which makes me a little sad. And although I don't particularly love the cold, tis the season to be jolly, right?

Winter is coming; bring it on! : )
